Money tip:
Budget-friendly Boredom Busters!
School holidays are here! It can be a challenging time for families as the temptation is there to spend more money (than usual) to keep the kids entertained. Below are some boredom buster ideas that won’t break the bank!
- Create a time capsule together. Put things in it that are happening right now and then open it in 12 months and see how things have changed.
This is a great activity for birthdays. You could create a sheet of questions that you answer annually and see how your ideas change as you grow. They could be favourite bands, foods you like, friends, goals etc. - Set up a home cinema and settle down to watch some fun family movies together. Wondering what to watch? Try these feel-good movies, introduce your kids to some 80s classics, or work your way through our A to Z of fab family movies!
- A night out in a tent is definitely a must for all kids. Even if you don’t get away, you can set up the tent in the back garden and enjoy sleeping outdoors.
- Create a scavenger hunt on things to find while walking or driving through town. Everyone can write their ideas down – then compile the list and get hunting together!
- Start the week with a bake-off “competition” – get everyone baking treats to last the week ahead and have fun in the process.
- Play tag in the dark – great fun for older kids. Head outside with torches to play chase or tip the can in the dark – amazing how the whole game can change when played in the dark.
- Collect some rocks and paint them. Then go for a walk in your community and hide them for others to find. There are amazing examples of these online and local groups that post when they have hidden new rocks.
